A man who would harass women by calling them repeatedly has been arrested by the 1090 team and the local police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district. The accused had more than a hundred complaints against him from women of 36 different districts, which had made him a “wanted” criminal.
A woman had complained to the women’s helpline about an unknown caller who would verbally abuse her. Such a complaint was made by 113 women in total from 36 different districts, after which the 1090 team started their surveillance on the phone number.
While investigating the case, they realised that the accused would change his SIM card and his location every day to avoid getting caught. After his location was tracked to Saini village and the local police were informed about the same, the teams arrested the accused, Ravendra Kumar Maurya, from a field outside the village.
The victims were from 36 districts, including Unnao, Kanpur Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Rae Bareli, Hardoi, Sultanpur, Mirzapur, Gorakhpur, Amethi, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, and Kaushambi.
Police have registered a case against him under sections 354, 419, 420, 68, 67, 71 and 294 of the IPC. Further investigation is underway.
