As Imran sells dream of honest govt, wife Bushra’s friend flees Pakistan fearing arrest in $32 mn scam

A close friend of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, has reportedly left for Dubai after being accused of corruption amid the political turmoil in the country.

As Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan faces one curveball after another as he strives to hold onto power, people close to him have started fleeing abroad as they fear retribution if a new government is installed. Farah Khan, who is a close friend of Imran Khan’s third wife Bushra Bibi, has reportedly fled the country after she was accused of corruption.

Farah Khan’s husband, Ahsan Jamil Gujjar, has already left for the US. And Farah Khan left for Dubai on Sunday, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

The development comes amidst the political turmoil in Pakistan that resulted after a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan was rejected by the deputy speaker of the National Assembly. Subsequently, the Pakistan President dissolved the National Assembly. As Imran Khan issued calls for fresh elections, the Pakistan Cabinet Secretariat de-notified him as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

And while Imran Khan is rallying for support, his close aides are reportedly leaving the country as they fear arrest if a new government is installed.

Farah Khan has been accused of corruption and of facilitating the transfer and posting of government officers.

The Opposition have alleged that Farah Khan received a huge sum of money for getting officers transferred and posted according to their choices. Calling the scam the “mother of all scandals”, the Opposition alleged that the total scam amounted to 6 billion Pakistani rupees (USD 32 million).

Maryam Nawaz, the Pakistan Muslim League (N) Vice President and deposed premier Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, claimed that Farah has done this corruption at the behest of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Maryam Nawaz further alleged that Imran Khan is wary of his “thefts” being exposed once he is out of power.

Recently-sacked Punjab governor Chaudhry Sarwar and Imran Khan’s old friend and the party financer Aleem Khan have also alleged that Farah had made billions of rupees in transfers and postings done in Punjab through chief minister Usman Buzdar.

Apart from Farah Khan and her husband fleeing to Dubai, there are also reports that more close aides of Imran Khan have planned to leave the country after he loses the top office.

In a TV interview recently, Imran Khan claimed that not only his life was in danger, but the Opposition, which is playing in foreign hands, will also resort to his character assassination.

“Let me inform my nation that my life is at risk too, they have also planned for my character assassination. Not only myself but my wife too,” the 69-year-old cricketer-turned-politician had said.
